"NSI Field Trip to Monasterboice, Mellifont Abbey and Trim Castle17th August 2024" by David Collins

As the Society is taking a break until September, on 17th August members of the Northern Branch, joined by a few members of the parental Numismatic Society of Ireland in Dublin, made a day-long field trip to some of the key sites of Medieval Ireland, including the ruins of Monasterboice monastery (founded in the 6th century), the Old Mellifont Abbey (founded by the Cistercians in 1142), and the mighty fortress of Trim Castle (built in the 1220s), where some Irish coins were struck during the reign of Edward IV.
